00:02 <****> is there a mail system that'll work out of the box without too much maintenance?
00:02 <****> go figure
00:02 <****> uh oh time to go
00:02 <****> simon: exim and postfix are easy
00:02 <****> simon : forget qmail ;)
00:02 <****> good bye
00:02 <****> oh .. darn
00:02 <****> wow
00:02 <****> that was interesting
00:02 <****> you see, "out of the box" means not getting into a religious war :P I just want a webmail for people that works.
00:03 <****> oh .. webmail or smtp ?
00:03 <****> well, either is fine, but they'll most likely just use webmail most of the time.
00:03 <****> simon: they are two totally different questions
00:03 <****> horde is usable .. and in debian
00:03 <****> not super easy to setup .. but lots of people use it
00:03 <****> abrotman, a mail system is a very ambiguous word.
00:04 <****> oh, right..
00:04 <****> squirrelmail is easier but simpler
00:04 <****> roundcube is good too (but a bit buggy)
00:04 <****> xand: nice simple webmail
00:05 <****> Sly: it's not in etch
00:05 <****> abrotman: horde? heh makes qmail installs look easy i swear
00:05 <****> i've done horde enough that it's easy for me :)
00:06 <****> show off
00:06 <****> isn't it just a set of php scripts
00:06 <****> too bad it still has enough issues that people whine
00:06 <****> simon: yes it is .. but it's a whole framework
00:07 <****> abrotman, does it take a lot of configuration?
00:07 <****> simon: most do
00:07 <****> Ronin, most what?
00:07 <****> simon: abrotman is a machine... nothing takes "a lot" of configuration for him ;)
00:07 <****> themill, hehe.
00:07 * themill runs and hides
00:08 <****> simon: require some/lots of configuration
00:09 <****> simon: depending on your setup .. it's fairly simple (depending on your level) .. my basic setup is the prefs in pgsql and an IMAP mail backend ..
00:09 <****> and the ssl bit :)
00:09 <****> anyone have any experience with network-manager under debian?
00:11 <****> deleting the cups server on my comp will only prevent me from connecting to it remotly right?
00:11 <****> #slackware and #perl want me nickname changed. :'(
00:11 <****> m-m-_m-_m-_-m: cant imagine why
00:12 <****> need some help. I type apt-get update and then apt-get install subversion and it tells me the package could not be found.. it's that the right package name?
00:12 <****> !search
00:12 <****>. see http://wiki.debian.org/WhereIsIt
00:13 <****> apt-cache search subversion came up empty too
00:13 <****> svn ?
00:13 <****> same
00:13 <****> node_6: then your sources.list is misconfigured
00:13 <****> #Appears as ANNA
00:13 <****> !info svn etch
00:13 <****> AnnaChatter: are you a bot?

00:14 <****> abrotman: ?
00:14 <****> apt-cache search subversion comes up with 75 matches
00:14 <****> node_6: that is not all you need. those are only security updates
00:14 <****> !tell node_6 about sources.list
00:14 <****> AnnaChatter: it wasn't funny when you were m-m-m--bollox either. now turn that off
00:14 <****> azeem: thank you

00:15 <****> deleting the cups server on my comp will only prevent me from connecting to it remotly right?
00:15 <****> humz
00:16 <****> i ment i can still print
00:16 <****> what is the terribleness that causes some apps (openoffice) to automatically raise above all of its sibling windows whenever it gets my mouse-focus?
00:16 <****> raise-on-focus .. your WM settings
00:16 <****> it is only with openoffice, and kylix (yeck)
00:17 <****> gener1c: not without reconfiguring some other print server
00:17 <****> wols: should I add contrib to the ftp link for regular packages? etc main contrib
00:17 <****> *etch main contrib
00:17 <****> ok, I have to ask ine more time.... debian don't install anything in /usr/local/ expect files belongs not to the distribution?
00:17 <****> node_6: not needed. you need to add a full deb... line
00:18 <****> I'm having trouble booting Debian Sarge (AMD64) on my box... I verified the cdrom's md5sum after I burned, it matches. I can boot the burned cdrom in vmware. But when I try to have my computer physically boot the cdrom, it skips right past the disk and goes to my harddrive. A knoppix disk boots, no problem.
00:18 <****> gryfel: yes
00:18 <****> gryfel: an official debian package will not put anything in there
00:18 <****> gryfel: debian will never touch /usr/local and you should never touch /usr except for /usr/local
