00:03 * nico__ should have kept -stable :(
00:04 <****> Is there any way to get all GTK input widgets (Sid, GNOME 2.20) to do grammar checking like they do spell-checking, similar to how M$ word handles it (red underlines misspelled, green has grammar errors)? I doubt it.
00:06 <****> jeffwheeler: I'm not sure that anyone has written a grammar checker that doesn't suck completely
00:07 <****> dondelelcaro: true, but then again I didn't mind M$s that much, either -- it worked decently
00:07 <****> jeffwheeler: the first thing would be to find such a library that was licensed appropriately, and I don't believe one exists
00:07 <****> what repo has pidgin?
00:08 <****> spacemonkey: testing repos :)
00:08 <****> hi
00:08 <****> spacemonkey: pidgin is available as gaim for stable
00:08 <****> URL?
00:08 <****> spacemonkey: What does 'dpkg -l libc6 | tail -1' say?
00:08 <****> spacemonkey: repos don't work with urls
00:08 <****> ii libc6 2.3.6.ds1-13etch2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries
00:08 <****> spacemonkey: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/pidgin
00:08 <****> I've just taken over a debian server (3.1), and after trying to upgrade it says taht dpkg was interrupted and that I must run "dpkg --configure -a" to fix it. I ran this, and it seems to get 'stuck' on update-initramfs whilst generating the initrd.img file (i,e, it's been there for 15mins now and no progress). How can I fix this?
00:09 <****> spacemonkey: pidgin is available as gaim for stable
00:09 <****> spacemonkey: so follow the advice of azeem
00:09 <****> spacemonkey: yeah, it's the same Gaim
00:09 <****> spacemonkey: well, it's at least a relatively old version
00:09 <****> Tramp, dpkg , thx again, solved... took time because I missed an 's/eth1/eth0/' typo.
00:14 <****> I'm trying to install the pidgin .deb and im getting this
00:14 <****> http://rafb.net/p/FvRKmB54.html
00:15 <****> spacemonkey: did you even read what we said?
00:15 <****> some of it, i was busy downloading
00:15 <****> the .deb
00:16 <****> maybe review it then
00:16 <****> your defintely not an asshole
00:21 <****> hi all :) is there an easy way to get dri working on debian? driconf says it doesn't detect and dri compatible devices, but my card is supposed to be compatible.
00:21 <****> s/and/any
00:24 <****> oh sillyness. I will try a lower colour depth.
00:32 <****> hello!
00:32 <****> I just setup a postfix imap mailserver on etch
00:33 <****> I have some big trouble
00:33 <****> its doing something strange
00:33 <****> hey guys when i install compiz and run compiz.real --replace, it doesn't run a window manager...i have compiz-core and compiz-gnome installed, do i need anything else? on sid
00:33 <****> gpm: how do you know that it's not running a window manager? no window borders?
00:34 <****> valdyn: yeah, and no alt-tab etc.
00:34 <****> gpm: and why do you run compiz.real instead of 'compiz' ?
00:34 <****> valdyn: either way i get the same result
00:34 <****> in top I have 20 to 25% of the CPU used
00:34 <****> compiz.real is just what i ran last
00:34 <****> gpm: use just compiz anyway
00:34 <****> most by postfix user
00:34 <****> same result, tried both
00:34 <****> gpm: make sure you have DRI and AIGLX
00:34 <****> etch install was fresh thought!
00:34 <****> gpm: compiz is entirely based on plugins, you need to load them
00:34 <****> gpm: ..which is yet not solved conveniently
00:35 <****> there's not a good documentation source i suppose?
00:35 <****> there should be a set of default plugins though, unless you mess with it
00:35 <****> the README.Debian wasn't too helpful
00:35 <****> gpm: try running gtk-window-decorator after starting compiz
00:35 <****> gpm: what does glxinfo | grep direct; say?
00:35 <****> gpm: the plugins are in gconf-editor
00:35 <****> or does compiz refuse to start if there's no AIGLX, and leaves the current WM alone?
00:36 <****> gpm: dependencies among those are listed too
00:36 <****> valdyn: according to ps, it's running
00:36 <****> gpm: restart it
00:36 <****> /var/log/mail.log is hell havy and stuff are always added to it rendering it impossible to use
00:36 <****> azeem: well, that's cool, but i wish it would've warned me before killing my wm
00:36 <****> valdyn: ok.
00:36 <****> shamshir: duh
00:36 <****> gpm: are you running stable?
00:36 <****> shamshir: there's plenty text processing tools for logfiles
00:37 <****> gpm: mind, gconf-editor is only used, if you start the gconf plugin first, like 'compiz --replace gconf'
00:37 <****> valdyn: gtk-window-decorator: Screen 0 on display ":0.0" already has a decoration manager
00:37 <****>' actually, but dependencies are not solved autmagically, though error messages may be useful
00:38 <****> valdyn, do you have any idea from where it can comme from
00:38 <****> ?
00:38 <****> gpm: killall gtk-window-decorator
00:38 <****> shamshir: where WHAT can come from
00:38 <****> valdyn: on which version of Debian do you have to specify compiz plugins to get at least window decorations?
00:38 <****> azeem: i have no idea
00:39 <****> azeem: he would tell me an error message if there was one, wouldnt he
00:39 <****> how can i tell what package provides a file? like /bin/bash?
00:39 <****> valdyn, in top I have 20 to 25% of the CPU used by postfix user
00:39 <****> shamshir: so what
00:39 <****> valdyn: from the man page: If the package compiz-gtk is installed, the wrapper will automatically start the gtk-window-decorator.
00:39 <****> when my etch install was fresh
00:39 <****> valdyn: i have compiz-gtk
00:39 <****> shamshir: i cant help you without information
00:39 <****> isn't it
00:39 <****> valdyn: why are you so sure that it's not AIGLX which is missing?
00:39 <****> azeem: the error message would say that
00:39 <****> ok
00:40 <****> azeem: its a pretty clear error message too
00:40 <****> valdyn, I know sorry, but can I stop all the postfix process at once
00:40 <****> azeem: i didn't add any aiglx stuff to xorg.conf, and i have an nvidia card...maybe i need to re-edit xorg.conf? wiki.d.o seems to think so
00:40 <****> to be able to look in th logs
00:40 <****> anyone?
00:40 <****> atoponce: man dpkg
00:40 <****> gpm: you really should get an error message if something is wrong there
00:40 <****> aiglx is built into nvidia drivers once I read
00:40 <****> azeem: i have a pretty old nvidia card though, gf4 mx420
00:41 <****> valdyn: k
00:41 <****> azeem: i've looked. that's why i'm asking here. i can't find the answer
00:41 <****> gpm: is that card supported by compiz type stuff?
00:41 <****> atoponce: /msg dpkg search
00:41 <****> *sigh*
