--- Log opened Tue Oct 23 00:00:40 2007
00:01 <****> umount: /home/max/F: device is busy
00:01 <****> I bet it's not
00:01 <****> Max_-: i bet it is
00:01 <****> lol
00:01 <****> how is it and how to fix that.. gotta umount
00:02 <****> ah i figured it out. created lvm on excrypted volume, and within logical volumes which i could mount...
00:02 <****> Max_-: close whatever files are open on it. lsof should help you find the open files
00:02 <****> Max_-: if you have a shell that is cd'd to that directory, that counts as an open file
00:02 <****> ok.. thanks!
00:02 <****> ('course, it'll take longer if your IMAP server or connection is crap)
00:02 <****> i am trying to get battlefield 2142 to work on my computer
00:03 <****> it will install but wont run on debian
00:03 <****> i am using the newest version of wine
00:03 <****> gordo: is this a windoze program?
00:03 <****> sue
00:03 <****> sure
00:03 <****> for windows xp
00:04 <****> gordo: ask the people in a wine-specific forum as they'll be much more helpful than we can be with wine related problems.
00:04 <****> and it uses copy protection
00:04 <****> o ok thanks
00:05 <****> stew: o.0 Nothing's open in the mounted directories...
00:06 <****> I'll fix this otherwise...
00:06 <****> Max_-: "lsof | grep /home/max/F" return anything?
00:06 <****> nothing
00:07 <****> Max_-: have you tried umount again?
00:07 <****> yup
00:08 <****> I guess I'll have to comment some lines in fstab and restart :S
00:08 <****> Max_-: any konqueror or nautilus windows open? (at all?)
00:08 <****> yes konq
00:08 <****> Max_-: how about "fuser -m //home/max/F"
00:08 <****> err, without the extra /
00:08 <****> themill: closed it and it didn't change anything
00:09 <****> Max_-: konqi is bad about keeping a directory open like that. Even when you close that window as it keeps a background process running :(
00:09 <****> ok.. good to know
00:09 <****> tryin stew's trick...
00:09 <****> returned 3323
00:10 <****> Max_-: it's got better though. I think there are extra tests if you mount under /media. (gamin and fam also treat things under /media differently)
00:10 <****> if it's a PID, it corresponds to famd... which I don't know
00:10 <****> oh...
00:11 <****> famd is a file change monitoring tool that konqi and others use to see if a directory has changed while they are showing it to you.
00:11 <****> I should think about trying it
00:11 <****> themill: should I simply kill it?
00:11 <****> it's the same process blocking the 3 mountpoints
00:12 <****> killed.
00:13 <****> Max_-: ummm... konqi *should* unregister it's interest in the directory when you close all its windows. You could pkill konqi which might be a little less drastic than killing fam. KDE used to behave very badly if you killed fam. It wouldn't reconnect until you logged in again.
00:13 <****> doh
00:13 <****> Max_-: newer kde might behave better of course... :)
00:13 <****> I closed all konq before.. but fam was still there... well.. I'll see what happen
00:14 <****> 3 FSes unmounted :)
00:14 <****> now I can do my find / w/o waiting an hour :)
00:16 <****> Max_-: you might like to look at the -mount option to find ;)
00:16 <****> ahhh.. you're not serious...
00:16 <****> lol
00:16 <****> Max_-: (or xdev)
00:16 <****> hello guys
00:16 <****> i heard gentoo users making fun of debian users : (
00:16 <****> i feel bad
00:17 <****>.<
00:17 <****> !tell Max_- about xyproblem
00:17 <****> nothing
00:17 <****> !tell Max_- about xy problem
00:17 <****> dpkg: stupid bot
00:17 <****> no, stupid themill
00:17 <****> haha
00:18 <****> haha
00:18 <****> monk: wanna start a flame war? :-)
00:18 <****> see xy problem
00:18 <****> stew: okay
00:18 <****> Max_-: thought you might appreciate that now ;)
00:18 <****> streuner I love flame wars
00:18 <****> go to slashdot in that case :-)
00:18 <****> Max_-: what are you trying to find? should you perhaps be using locate?
00:19 <****> Max_-: have you looked at slocate/locate?
00:19 <****> stew: snap... ;)
00:19 <****> , no locate would not be of any help.. (i think, I've not read the man on this) just did a little find / -group games -print0 | xargs -0 chown max:max
00:19 <****> and now I have it working :)
00:20 <****> I tried backports and installed mysql-5 on a sarge, so I then put the same sources.list and preferences file on the next sarge, and I get error messages, how can I fix this?
00:20 <****> Max_-: are you sure you didn't want to just "adduser max games"?
00:20 <****> irule_: show us the actual command you typed and the actual output, use a pastebin: /msg dpkg pastebin
00:21 <****> sup stew
00:21 <****> stew ok
00:21 <****> stew: did gpasswd -a max games and it didn'T work... .
00:21 <****> so I thought that changing the user, as it was suggested in the installation itself could fix the problem
00:22 <****> Max_-: what makes you say it didn't work?
00:22 <****> couldn'T see the icons, and the game didn'T work more
00:22 <****> Max_-: did you log out and then back in again after adding yourself to the group?
00:22 <****> ... re-doh
00:23 <****> stew this is my problem with backports http://pastebin.ca/746055
00:23 <****> irule_: sarge is not stable any more; etch is stable
00:23 <****> irule_: deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main non-free contrib is pointing to etch, not sarge
00:24 <****> !tell irule_ about etch
00:25 <****> themill thanks man but I cant upgrade nor reinstall because the server is houndreds of miles away and there is nobody to help me recover a disaster
00:26 <****> irule_: that's fine, but you can't mix "sarge" and "stable" in your config... you can mix "etch" and "stable" or "sarge" and "oldstable".
00:26 <****> irule_: what version does "dpkg -l libc6" print?
00:27 <****> hello
00:28 <****> stew http://pastebin.ca/746062
00:28 <****> oh I miss the old days when I could flood a little ;)
00:28 <****> I've been asked to add a debian/ dir to my source code, where can I find info on that?
00:28 <****> irule_: why do you have o=Debian pinned at -10?
