00:00 <****> i need help with : ERROR opening V4L interface
00:00 <****> : No such device
00:00 <****> but then there's never any line for the script being run
00:00 <****> chemist: something like: ecasound -i alsa,spdif -o test.wav
00:00 <****> bye
00:01 <****> Tramp: well, it doesn't seem to have run...
00:01 <****> kisielk_: why are you redirecting stdout and stderr when you have MAILTO set?
00:01 <****> pickcoder: I didn't write the script, it came from the cacti package
00:02 <****> pickcoder: but apparently that script is really verbose, so they don't do mailing
00:02 <****> What package to man pages for things like syscalls and such hide in?
00:02 <****> Er, *do man pages..
00:02 <****> buu: manpages-dev
00:02 <****> kisielk_: so MAILTO should be null
00:02 <****> not root
00:02 <****> pickcoder where can i get vendor number? give me an example
00:02 <****> kisielk_: you could try "SHELL=/bin/bash"
00:02 <****> pickcoder: well, that doesn't make a difference in whether or not the script runs, does it?
00:03 <****> stew: Hot.
00:03 <****> Devas: run lspci to get the bus address of the card
00:03 <****> then run lspci -n to see the vendor/device IDs
00:04 <****> 05:06.0 0200: 8086:107c (rev 05)
00:04 <****> 8086 is the vendor
00:04 <****> 107c is the device (revision 05)
00:05 <****> dani_: thats an e1000
00:05 <****> Devas: ^^
00:05 <****> that's my card stew
00:05 <****>
00:05 <****> sample for how to read lspci -n
00:05 <****> Devas: pickcoder has an e1000, they are nice cards
00:06 <****> that box has 2
00:06 <****> pickcoder ok: 104c:ac51
00:06 <****> it's a proxy router. :)
00:06 <****> hm, that script is still not running..
00:06 <****> that's pcmcia
00:07 <****> by the way, i found a bug with nano. If you use securecrt and a session in xterm, try to read a big file with nano. Then use your arrows to go down the file you will notice that the buffer you see is really really really BAD!! check this out guys!
00:07 <****> kisielk_: what happens when you run "su - www-data -c "/usr/bin/touch /tmp/cactiran; /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php"
00:07 <****> Klipsch: sure its a bug in nano and not securecrt etc.?
00:07 <****> how can i access my POP3 mail?
00:07 <****> Klipsch: did you report it? /msg dpkg reportbug
00:07 <****> what is a good program for that
00:07 <****> kisielk_: hmm. currently no clue, but I'm testing something.
00:07 <****> for console
00:07 <****> stew_: well, the poller script itself runs fine if I run it as www-data
00:07 <****> no errors or anything
00:08 <****> I mean, if this thing was causing an error, I wouldn't mind so much
00:08 <****> pickcoder did you get the numbers?
00:08 <****> ah ha
00:08 <****> I found the problem
00:08 <****> Devas: that's a cardbus
00:08 <****> pam_access was blocking www-data
00:08 <****> what's the network card's numbers?
00:08 <****> hallo
00:08 <****> kisielk_: found that in auth.log?
00:09 <****> Tramp: yeah
00:09 <****> Tramp: our servers are pretty well hardened so nobody but root and a certain group can log in
00:09 <****> pickcoder please give me an example again
00:09 <****> Ronin pretty sure... maybe you can test
00:09 <****> 05:06.0 0200: 8086:107c (rev 05)
00:09 <****> How do you make a second NIC start at boot? Just edit /etc/network/interfaces?
00:10 <****> Klipsch: nope, no securecrt/windows here
00:10 <****> third number set is the vendor:device
00:10 <****> Klipsch: checked the bts?
00:10 <****> I just installed debian from a netinst but now i get "Fatal server error: no screens found" i have done dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but still no luck
00:10 <****> boulbul: module assistant failed
00:10 <****> yes Ronin
00:10 <****> and?
00:10 <****> by the way, with pico its fine
00:10 <****> cuz even gentoo it does same for me
00:10 <****> only way is to use pico
00:10 <****> and debian has no pico
00:10 <****> Klipsch: which release of debian?
00:11 <****> Tramp: ironically, I'm setting up this server to monitor syslogs, which would let me catch problems like this
00:11 <****> v4
00:11 <****> DawnLight: you need the video4linux modules
00:11 <****> amphi: thanks for your help, I gave up I got error messages with the module assistance... thanks for your help anyway... I just have to stick with kerel...18
00:11 * Ronin still suspects securecrt actually
00:11 <****> Klipsch: It does have pico just build the pine source code
00:11 <****> kisielk_: well, guess the logs are fine 8)
00:11 <****> pickcoder: they in debian?
00:11 <****> Klipsch: apt-get -b source pine
00:12 <****> h3sp4wn why no .deb?
00:12 <****> pickcoder 00:04.0 0607: 104c:ac51
00:12 <****> DawnLight: aptitude search v4l
00:12 <****> Devas: that's the same PCI cardbus id
00:12 <****> do you not see "Ethernet" somewhere in the lspci list?
00:13 <****> Klipsch: licensing issue if i recall correctly
00:13 <****> pickcoder i have another number here
00:13 <****> pickcoder 00:04.1 0607: 104c:ac51
00:14 <****> Klipsch: pine/pico are not in debian becuase they are non-free
00:14 <****> Klipsch: Yep licensing - Not sure whether pico is still included in alpine or not (if it is you can get alpine from backports or lenny/sid)
00:14 <****> Devas: you have two cardbus slots then
00:14 <****> apt-get -b source pine dosent work
00:14 <****> Klipsch: you would have to add non-free
00:14 <****> apparently nothing is in them, if you don't see the card listed in lspci
00:14 <****> !tell Klipsch about non-free
00:14 <****> or the card/slot is borked
00:14 <****> h3sp4wn: there is a package named 'pine' in non-free?
00:14 <****> pickcoder with -vn i can't see names, only -v
