00:08 <****> What do I install to get the development packages of Xlib/Xfree86 ?
00:08 <****> Debian doesn't distribute xfree86 any more
00:09 <****> \o/
00:09 <****> urk. So I can't compile wine?
00:09 <****> abrotman: thanks, btw
00:09 <****> milligan_: how does that follow?
00:09 <****> hi RichiH!
00:09 <****> milligan_: if you cannot compile wine, you should quote the build failures you get
00:10 <****> RichiH: did you punish him?!
00:10 <****> configure: WARNING: X development files not found. Wine will be built without X support, which probably isn't what you want. You will need to installdevelopment packages of Xlib/Xfree86 at the very least.
00:10 <****> milligan_: Install xorg-dev
00:10 <****> cheers gravity
00:11 <****> You may only need libx11-dev, but that'll get you everything
00:11 <****> abrotman: not much punishment there *shrug*
00:11 <****> abrotman: but if you mean we made sure they would not spam any more, yes
00:11 <****> RichiH: good enough :)
00:12 <****> milligan_: apt-get build-dep wine might be useful too
00:12 <****> hey all! I'm having a problem with lan card! Every time when i boot the system the card assumes diferent alias Ex: first boot eth1 second boot eth2 !!! Someone can help me
00:12 <****> milligan_: that way it is likely to be compiled against the same libraries that debian's wine is compiled against
00:13 <****> Genjuro: is its MAC address changing for some reason?
00:13 <****> !z25
00:13 <****> somebody said z25 was as of version 0.090, udev has the ability to statically rename ethernet cards based on MAC address. The addresses are configured in /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules . If you want the mappings to change, edit that file. If you don't want udev to touch your interface names, remove that file and z45_persistent-net-generator.rules in the same directory.
00:13 <****> \amethyst, I just need to pop in the latest version to install a program.. then I'm going to remove my custom compile, and go back to the debian lenny version.,
00:13 <****> \amethyst, i don't know, the driver is forcedeth for nforce 400
00:14 <****> Genjuro: can you put the contents of your /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-net.rules in a pastebin?
00:14 <****> \amethyst, i have one Realtek 8139 here but it don't have any problem
00:14 <****> \amethyst, one moment
00:16 <****> \amethyst, what's the address of pastebin?
00:16 <****> I'm running Etch. I uninstalled everything Python related, then re-installed python2.5 (the default is v2.4). Now i want to reinstall PyQt, matplotlib, etc, *without* reinstalling python2.4, and have everything built/linked/etc correctly. How do i do this?
00:17 <****> !paste
00:17 <****> Do not paste more than 3 lines to this channel. Instead, use: http://channels.debian.net/paste/ or http://rafb.net/paste/ or http://picpaste.com for pics.
00:17 <****> hi
00:17 <****> how can i show hidden windows files?
00:19 <****> \amethyst, http://paste.debian.net/45841
00:19 <****> \amethyst, i'm thinking is the mac is changing
00:19 <****> hi all
00:19 <****> I just install debian (netinstall) + kde
00:20 <****> and also install kdeart manager
00:20 <****> I can't find it :(
00:20 <****> anyone know where is it?
00:20 <****> what is a backport?
00:20 <****> !backport
00:20 <****>
00:20 <****> I want to use a package but it is marked as an etch backport
00:21 <****> \amethyst, http://paste.debian.net/45841
00:21 <****> Genjuro: that does appear to be the case
00:21 <****> \amethyst, any resolution?
00:21 <****> \amethyst: thanks
00:22 <****> have anyone tried kdeart manager?
00:22 <****> Joelito: the what?
00:22 <****> abrotman: kdeartwork
00:22 <****> Genjuro: you might include a rule in the persistent-net-generator to ignore that card
00:22 <****> !info kdeartwork etch
00:22 <****> kdeartwork: (themes, styles and more from the official KDE release), section kde, is optional. Version: 4:3.5.5-1 (etch), Packaged size: 9 kB, Installed size: 20 kB
00:23 <****> Genjuro: or rather, to assign it statically and not run the generator
00:23 <****> abrotman: I already install it via synaptic, but seems that is not in the meenu
00:23 <****> menu*
00:23 <****> \amethyst, how can i do this?
00:25 <****> Genjuro: in z45_persistent-net-generator.rules something like:
00:25 <****> Genjuro: ATTRS{address}="00:00:6c:*", GOTO="persistent_net_generator_end"
00:26 <****> doh, that first = should be ==
00:26 <****> Genjuro: then in z25_persistent-net.rules something like: SUBSYSTEM=="net", ATTRS{address}="00:00:6c:*", NAME="eth1
00:27 <****> i need some help
00:27 <****> should i install unstable or testing
00:27 <****> i want to "bridge" two network interfaces
00:27 <****> which one has a better package tree
00:27 <****> chafe: if you have to ask, definitely not unstable
00:27 <****> chafe: unstable is very up-to-date---so much so that it is very often broken
00:27 <****> i have internet by wlan0 and eth0 is a dhcp serveur
00:27 <****> often?
00:27 <****> yea thats a good answer
00:28 <****> well how often
00:28 <****> and i want all the pc's connected to eth0 to have internet
00:28 <****> i wasnt being sarcstic when i said good answer i mean thats what i wanted to know
00:28 <****> testing never really had a bunch of broken stuff in it for me
00:28 <****> chafe: a month or so ago there was a period of a week or two where there was not an installable libc6 candidate
00:28 <****> :r
00:29 <****> testing it is then
00:29 <****> \amethyst, should add in z45_persistent-net-generator.rules ATTRS{address}="00:00:6c:*", GOTO="persistent_net_generator_end"
00:29 <****> ?
00:29 <****> sorry, back again. there are a lot of disconnects on my normal connection.
00:29 <****> how about the amd64 release?
00:29 <****> Genjuro: change the first = (after ATTRS{address}) to == Other than that, yes
00:29 <****> am i going to have all my drivers and everything i need? are x86 packages going to work?
00:30 <****> there is no more x86 .. you mean xorg
00:30 <****> what abrotman
00:30 <****> who?
00:30 <****> im talking about the architecture
00:30 <****> \amethyst, don't have any line with this code! I'm going to add =)
00:30 <****> i386
00:30 <****> i386
00:30 <****> i686
00:30 * gravity blinks
00:30 <****> yea sorry thats what i meant
00:30 <****> chafe: do you want amd64 or i386?
00:31 <****> is there any problem using the amd64 intead of the i386
00:31 <****> well have a 64 bit amd cpu
00:31 <****> but i am wondering if i will have any problems with 3rd party software and drivers that arent in the package tree
