00:10 <****> Hello. I'm in Debian testing, using KDE. The keyboard layout switch applet is broken. How do I find out what's wrong and fix it?
00:10 <****> pingouin: vlc will output a stream in wave format to disk
00:10 <****> dante_2core: where in switzerland?
00:10 <****> trivially
00:10 <****> lvh, aargau
00:10 <****> Hello. I'm in Debian testing, using KDE. The keyboard layout switch applet is broken. How do I find out what's wrong and fix it?
00:10 <****> ismael: explain "broken"
00:10 <****> ismael: /msg dpkg bts
00:10 <****> ismael, hmn, try and turn it off and back on
00:10 <****> HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM POLAND!
00:10 <****> ismael: without repeating yourself
00:10 <****> ismael: i think your keyboard is stuck on repeat.
00:11 <****> it appears debian multiarch implementation is still in the planning stage
00:11 <****> Happy Newyear from Germany!
00:11 <****> dante_2core: nono, the quote is: Have you tried turning it off and on again?
00:11 <****> sorry I repeated the message, it just that my connection died
00:11 <****> HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM HUNGARY!
00:11 <****> donamo, thanks, to you too
00:11 <****> froehes neujahr aus Australien
00:12 <****> epsilon: Prosit Neujar from flanders

00:12 <****> Boldog uj evet, donamo
00:13 <****> koszonom, viszont kivanom neked is
00:13 <****> donamo: i dont speak magyar, i have a glossary :p
00:13 <****> :L
00:14 <****> ismael: /msg dpkg bts
00:14 <****> lvh: it's broken in the sense that it says "err" instead of the layout, and that its currently on the US layout instead of the default ES layout (thats why im making so many mistakes)
00:15 <****> ismael: ah, okay, strange
00:15 <****> ismael: dont you have new year to celebrate? :P lemme check
00:16 <****> ismael: kde testing is 3.5.8 right
00:16 <****> sudo apt-get install kde-l10n-es ?
00:16 <****> !info kdebase lenny
00:16 <****> kdebase: (base components from the official KDE release), section kde, is optional. Version: 4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-2 (lenny), Packaged size: 41 kB, Installed size: 88 kB
00:16 <****> unless you want your language in english
00:18 <****> is your keyboard set to spanish in your xorg.conf file?
00:18 <****> lvh: I
00:18 <****> lvh: I'm waiting on my family to come :)
00:18 <****> yes
00:18 <****> (i dont use kde so I'm trying to fix it by not using kde :P
00:18 <****> lvh: yes, it is in spanish in xorg.conf
00:18 <****> ismael: do you have some small de/wm so you can eliminate kde?
00:19 <****> its probably kde, i just dont want to take any chances
00:19 <****> sudo apt-get install kkbswitch
00:19 <****> try with that
00:19 <****> that way you know if its the applet or something worse with kde
00:21 <****> what is the default logger in debian these days? I have a Lenny system and I'm not sure if it *should* have syslogd and klogd or sysklogd. I have been using metalog but I want to back out of that since so many of the scripts don't understand it's file structure and I am trying to reduce the amount of noise I get from this system
00:21 <****> lvh: i was just doing that
00:23 <****> sysklogd is it, in syslogd package (IIRC)
00:23 <****> !+find sbin/sysklogd
00:23 <****> Updating debian files... please wait.
00:24 <****> hmm... that iptables.txt script isn't working very well... i restarted networking and it spawned 2500 instances of the iptables script before i stopped it
00:24 <****> dpkg: hurry up :P
00:25 <****> helo_: stuck in post-up or something?
00:25 <****> how do I calculate the number of days in between 2 dates? Like "x days since"
00:25 <****> helo_: iptables doing what?
00:25 <****> RoC_MasterMind: depends on the language
00:25 <****> RoC_MasterMind: use a language with a decent standard lib
00:26 <****> depends if you're swearing too
00:26 <****> apt-cache show syslogd comes up blank, seems to indicate sysklogd is it. klogd still has info though.. strange.
00:26 <****> oh, hah
00:26 <****> o
00:26 <****> That was a stupid question
00:26 <****> In a bash shell script.
00:26 <****> ask #bash
00:26 <****> yay!
00:26 <****> yes!
00:26 <****> thanks
00:26 <****> dpkg's host must be under load or something
00:27 <****> i put the iptables script guerin linked in /usr/local/sbin/, but it refers to "iptables" in serveral places, which was executing itself :)
