00:00 <****> http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/
00:00 <****> Thor: ^
00:00 <****> i trid to copy the image and i got permission denied.....

00:00 <****> sorry guys my modem crapped out
00:00 <****> np
00:01 <****> Thor: the cli install is the way to go <== I agree here tbh, I tried installing my system 5/6 times the other day. The only way I could get it to work (and it worked perfectly) was via a stage3 install from the handbook.
00:01 <****> so did you finish compiling proof?
00:01 <****> handbook huh? never heard of it.... just kidding
00:01 <****> What's the config file I need to edit for my keyboard to default to numlock on?
00:01 <****> permission denide
00:01 <****> im stuck i cant cp the image over
00:01 <****> proof, tell us the exat output
00:01 <****> of what cp?
00:02 <****> proof, yes.
00:02 <****> proof, did you mount 'readonly' by any chance?
00:03 <****> bash: /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage: Permission denied
00:03 <****> proof, tell us the output of this ocmmand: " mount | grep boot"
00:03 <****> i dont even know how to mount read only
00:03 <****> alright thanks... I am sure I will be back in a few +/- hours :)
00:04 <****> /dev/hda1 on /boot type ext2 (rw,noatime)
00:04 <****> ?
00:04 <****> you are not able read /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage??
00:04 <****> proof thats rw
00:05 <****> proof, try this "sum /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage"
00:05 <****> 63120 2407
00:05 <****> thats only output
00:05 <****> proof, so you are able to read. That is good.
00:05 <****> and the /msg mzbot faq expat also fails
00:06 <****> proof, what command gave you permission denied ?
00:06 <****> proof, try: chmod +w /boot/vmlinuz
00:06 <****> do you have troubles with expat muntz?
00:06 <****> cp image to /boot
00:06 <****> sure am
00:06 <****> is there any application got gnome+gtk/kde+qt that is even remotely like textmate's drag a folder for a project view?
00:06 <****> can't build
00:06 <****> as in non-volatile project view
00:06 <****> proof cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz ?
00:07 <****> i didnt name it vmlinuz
00:07 <****> but yea
00:07 <****> proof, what di you name it ?
00:07 <****> lul
00:07 <****> proof, what does 'ls -Ll boot/vmlinuz' say?
00:08 <****> -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2462768 Oct 11 12:45 /boot/vmlinuz
00:08 <****> proof, put "/' in front of boot, so it is : ls -lL /boot/vmlinuz
00:08 <****> i did
00:09 <****> proof, you have write permission. What the hell is going on????
00:09 <****> proof, do "id -a"
00:09 <****> id -a
00:09 <****> uid=0(root) gid=0(root) groups=0(root),1(bin),2(daemon),3(sys),4(adm),6(disk),10(wheel),11(floppy),20(dialout),26(tape),27(video)
00:09 <****> hi there. I'm having some problems trying to emerge app-text/tetex-3.0_p1-r3 . after downloading tetex-texmf-3.0.tar.gz, emerge says that the RMD160 verification failed. what can I do to solve this?
00:09 <****> Anyone in here have vmware-workstation 5 running under Gentoo? Mine was working great until the recent upgrade from 5.5.4.44386 to 5.5.5.45731. I've tried the any-any-113 patch. when /etc/init.d/vmware starts, it tells me that vmware-config.pl needs to be run. I run that, but despite it saying that the configuration was completed successfully, it fails to start the vmware services or load any of the kernel modules.
00:10 <****> I've emerge --unmerged workstation, and vmware-modules, and re-emerged them, as well as re-applied the any-any patch. Nothing's worked so far, and I can't find enough error messages to know which direction to head in.
00:10 <****> porcho: rm /usr/portage/distfile/tetex-3.0_p1-r3*
00:10 <****> proof, ok, then copy to some other name like :cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/proof
00:10 <****> porcho, either the ebuid is corrupt or the download is corrupt. Remove them both, emerge --sync then emerge the programe again
00:10 <****> i did
00:10 <****> permission denied lemme try again though
00:11 <****> proof, ok, tell me 'ls -l /boot'
00:11 <****> try as root, proof
00:11 <****> muntz, he is root
00:11 <****> his /boot is mounted ro
00:11 <****> hey malahal that worked....
00:11 <****> is there any way to tell gentoo scripts to use uhm rp-pppoe instead of pppd?
00:11 <****> no denial
00:12 <****> try cmp again
00:12 <****> NeddySeagoon, I'll try to do it...
00:12 <****> proof, do cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /dev/null so we can see if its input or output problems
00:12 <****> hello -- should I have revdep-rebuild in emerge somewhere ?
00:12 <****> NeddySeagoon, input is not problem as he ran 'sum' successfully on it.
00:12 <****> cmp /boot/proof /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage
00:12 <****> that returned nothing
00:12 <****> proof, what arch are you ?
00:13 <****> x86
00:13 <****> proof, that good. Change your entry in grub.conf
00:13 <****> proof, not 64 bit ?
00:13 <****> should i try and copy it over again as vmlinuz?
00:13 <****> NeddySeagoon, he is root according to "id -a"
00:13 <****> no duel core intel
00:13 <****> I have been advised by gentoo to run revdep-rebuild but i have not got the app installed and i can't find it in emerge
00:14 <****> proof, yes, replace vmlinuz by boot in grub.conf as you want to boot proof now!
00:14 <****> i went back and copied it over as vmlinuz
00:14 <****> and cmp the 2 again and it returned nothing
00:14 <****> what was that about?
00:14 <****> Pretoriab: emerge gentoolkit
00:14 <****> proof, what does ls -l / show for permissions on /boot ?
00:14 <****> proof, did that work?
00:14 <****> great thanks likewhoa
00:14 <****> yea... thats wierd
00:14 <****> #ubuntu-es
00:15 <****> ls -l /boot?
00:15 <****> alot of output
00:15 <****> ill nopaste
