00:00 <****> hda3/superblock last edit was in the futer
00:01 <****> ?
00:01 <****> is it supposed to list everything you ever installed when you run emerge -ae world?
00:02 <****> como?
00:03 <****> actually, tons of stuff are failing to emerge because of undeclared stuff
00:03 <****> gpm fails, iputils fails
00:04 <****> any1 know why my superblock displays it was writen in the future??? and what file do i have to touch 2 fix?
00:05 <****> proof: have you changed your timezone?
00:06 <****> no
00:06 <****> but there is somthing wierd about my time settings
00:06 <****> at boot is says my clock is still set to factory
00:07 <****> proof: then change /etc/init.d/clock
00:07 <****> but i changed it to EST when i installed gentoo
00:07 <****> No
00:07 <****> /etc/conf.d/clock, even
00:07 <****> proof: you might have added the EST timezone as /etc/localtime, but you need to tell the clock that.
00:08 <****> this is the file i already edited
00:08 <****> letsw see local tim
00:12 <****> in init.d/clock it says it will display that if your set to factory in conf.d/clock
00:12 <****> but im not
00:12 <****> whats that all about
00:13 <****> proof: can you paste /etc/conf.d/clock please
00:14 <****> I've any commands to add at /dev. Which is the file to add those commands?
00:16 <****> hi
00:16 <****> can someone help me redigest an ebuild?
00:16 <****> digest
00:16 <****> argh!
00:17 <****> thanks
00:17 <****> desp: be careful though
00:17 <****>
00:17 * desp slaps forehead
00:17 <****> I'll be fine now, thanks
00:17 <****> desp: welcome
00:17 <****> milk-it: mknod
00:18 <****> milk-it: with udev, this is practically never required though
00:19 <****> if my system has always the same old date at boot, then it's the battery for sure or not?
00:19 <****> The COMS battery, perhaps.
00:19 <****> ishino, oh no! I can execute normal commands in of initialization. Example: iwpriv eth1 set_power 5
00:19 <****> Err
00:20 <****> My dad's old gateway box can't even maintain the time, so yeah.
00:20 <****> Perhaps you have a faulty bios. I'm not sure how long batterys in the BIOS real time clocks last.
00:20 <****> milk-it: hm, i guess i read your question wrong
00:21 <****> milk-it: what do you want to do?
00:21 <****> my cinelerra keeps crashing. new_vcodec: couldn't find codec for "FMP4" ..."MP43" ..."sowt"
00:22 <****> Keith-BlindUser: then how to find out?
00:22 <****> ishino, execute commands in boot
00:22 <****> ishino, in slackware is /etc/rc.d/rc.local
00:22 <****> You might want to redirect that question to someone else, because I am not very good with computer related hardware.
00:23 <****> milk-it: /etc/conf.d/local.[start|stop]
00:23 <****> I am very good on the software side. When hardware problems arise, I am...not the best person to answer questions, especially when we talk about faulty RAM, dead batteries, etc.
00:24 <****> 2/235, wow. This was a bad idea :)
00:24 <****> ponale: well, do you have other settings reset to their default values in the BIOS?
00:25 <****> hrmm this isn't good, I get errors sometimes when emerging stuff :\ just had a bzip2 decompression error
00:25 <****> milk-it: for other things write your own init script and place it where you need it using dependencies
00:26 <****> oh yeah, when I do an emerge -pv, one of the flags shows up yellow with a percent sign after it, what does this mean?
00:26 <****> ishino, ok, thanks! :D
00:27 <****> HarryR: flag has been added after you installed the package
00:27 <****> ah right
00:27 <****> HarryR: see also emerge manpage
00:27 <****> thing is, even if it's being upgraded?
00:28 <****> HarryR: thats the point, the use flag has been added to the package since the last time you built it
00:28 <****> What process in linux or gentoo remembers things like mouse theme changes?
00:29 <****> ah fair enough, serves me right for not reading the manpage
00:29 <****> broken: whats a mouse theme?
00:29 <****> Cursor theme.
00:29 <****> Things are not loading up when I restart the computer that is why I am asking.
00:31 <****> ishino: good. well, now i've changed date on the bios menu and it seems to be persistent
00:32 <****> also, I'm getting segfaults in PPC even though preemptive switching is disabled
00:33 <****> is there a fast way to continue from a pre patched & unpacked source tree if gcc dies half way through the build ?
00:34 <****> HarryR: FEATURES="keepwork", but that may cause the build to fail later
00:34 <****> hrm, if it dies again i'll try that
00:35 <****> cursor theme.
00:40 <****> so... how do you get around all the undeclared stuff?
00:43 <****> I just compiled and insterted the kernel RTC modules, but I don't have /dev/rtc or /proc/sys/dev/rtc/* or anything I need to use it. How do I get those?
00:43 <****> nooblar: mine doesn't.
00:43 <****> I believe that probably has something to do with not having kioslaves.
00:43 <****> Thats why now I am doing an ermege of kde-meta to see what I am missing but its taking a while :P
00:44 <****> broken: whatever kioslaves are good luck with that. I emerged kde with no use flags set and had no problems. athough later I might have to reemerge part of it
00:45 <****> Heh. Its 253 packages :( Crap dual cores don't do anything hehe.
00:45 <****> Hey, a PCI card in my computer got pulled out of it's socket... and gentoo didn't complain and kept running like everything is ok... I didn't know the card was pulled out at the time... so eventually my power supply blew out.... (just replaced it).... is there a way to make sure that gentoo violently complains when there are HW issues?
00:46 <****> shiftplusone: you should be kept away from computers ;-)
00:46 <****> shiftplusone: not really
00:46 <****> bonsaikitten: lol... nuh not my fault... this time.
00:46 <****> shiftplusone: psus shouldn't die because of that tho
00:47 <****> nooblar: if i can ask,t his might be a bit off topic but how do you change a theme in kde i've added .kth files to the theme manager but it changes nothing.
00:47 <****> shiftplusone: good psus are next to impossible to kill
00:47 <****> jzono1, guess this wasn't one of them.
00:47 <****> jzono1: you obviously have never seen a PSU arcing inside ...
00:48 <****> bonsaikitten: doesn't that take a short, or user abuse?
00:48 <****> jzono1: not sure how it happened, but the machine ran while the PSU was arcing
00:48 <****> ouch
00:48 <****> broken: I haven't been able to install themes in kde yet, the icon themes add just fine. but theme manager themes always don't work. ultimately I just emerge whatever is available
00:49 <****> never seen anything like that before, but it kept running with these nice bzzzzzt POP sounds :-)
00:49 <****> i've shorted a bad psu, and i've shorted a good one
00:49 <****> for the 2nd time the mouse buttons stop working and the keyboard dies, even capslock's LED won't toggle and I can't use the computer until I hard-reboot. anyone know why this happens????
00:49 <****> the bad one gave me smells, sparks and a nice light show
00:50 <****> the good one just stopped doing it's thing for a while
00:52 <****> hmm... this PSU gives half the power of the other one..... =/ surprised the comp is running =/
