00:00 <****> if you enable them - and install nothing.. Nothing at all will happen.
00:00 <****> wiehan: Can you copy and paste the contents of the /etc/apt/sources.list file into http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org so I can take a look at its content?
00:01 <****> !training
00:01 <****> Sorry, I don't know anything about training - try searching on http://ubotu.ubuntu-nl.org/factoids.cgi
00:02 * Linux_Galore pokes wiehan
00:03 <****> Are there (I imagine there are) some affordable places that can take a pdf file and print it out to a nice book for a reasonable price?
00:03 <****> Not sure what to google for -
00:04 <****> wiehan: Ok, now give us the url that pastebin gave you. We need that to be able to see what you pasted
00:05 <****> I PMed you
00:05 <****> wiehan: Yes, but we should keep it in the channel so there are more eyes on the issue :)
00:05 <****> is it possible to tether my phone to kubuntu to use it as a modem?
00:06 <****> its an HTC 3G phone
00:06 <****> it works on windows but i want to use kubuntu on my dell laptop
00:06 <****> is it possible to tether my phone to my laptop to use it as a modem?
00:07 <****> notv: I'm not sure, but I have heard others using their phone as a USB modem or bluetooth modem.
00:07 <****> yes a usb modem
00:07 <****> thats what im wanting to do
00:07 <****> so this is possible?
00:07 <****> possible.. :) in general...
00:07 <****> notv: Hopefully someone will have an answer for that
00:07 <****> but i bet some research will need to be done.
00:08 <****> notv: Perhaps search the ubuntu forums for usb modem?
00:08 <****> Id say step 1 is getting bluetooth working. Or are you going to use usb?
00:09 <****> ardchoille: thanks, im on it
00:09 <****> dr_willis: usb
00:09 <****> Dr_willis: Thanks, he's on it :)
00:10 <****> You do have a dialup ISP account?
00:12 <****> yes
00:13 * Dr_willis had to ask that Obvious question. :)
00:13 <****> :)
00:13 <****> = )
00:13 <****> In this channel you dont assume Anything.
00:14 <****> I dont even have a House Phone any more. Unless you count Skype. Wonder if i can use Skype to dial up a BBS. :)
00:14 <****> looks hairy
00:19 <****> it looks like bluetooth might be easier than usb
00:25 <****> hello, i am trying to select a font in kde control center, but the condensed, semicondensed, extended, and semiextended versions are not in the font style list
00:25 <****> i was able to select the semicondensed version by editing config files by hand
00:33 <****> internet cut again....
00:34 <****> but i<cant get the pASTEBIN to work
00:35 <****> rami__: Does ot load in the browser at all?
00:35 <****> *it
00:36 <****> can anyone give me a quick runthrough of installing something with a rpm file?
00:37 <****> X314: Don't use rpm files, you can cause problem. Look in the repos or look for a .deb file made for Ubuntu. What are you trying to install.
00:37 <****> !rpm
00:37 <****> RPM is the RedHat Package Management system. Ubuntu uses !APT, not RPM. RPM packages are not supported (the package "alien" can allow installing them, but it's quite dangerous)
00:38 <****> ardchoille: well. pretty much rpm is all I can get, its drivers for my printer..
00:38 <****> what kind of printer?
00:38 <****> X314: Are you sure your printer isn't already compatible? Kubuntu has lots of printer drivers.
00:39 <****> Theres also some extra printer 'drivers' not installed by default for older printers i recall.
00:39 <****> no.
00:39 <****> Dr_willis: That's good to know
00:40 <****> well.. its not old.. so..
00:41 <****> Hey mates
00:41 <****> Hi jmm_wifi
00:41 <****> merry xmas to all yah
00:41 <****> hi ardchoile
00:42 <****> lot's xmas gifs
00:42 <****> to all
00:43 <****> Though. I will try if it will just work.. who knows.. maybe I'll get lucky :p
00:43 <****> ok Hard question to all
00:44 <****> i got a athlon 64 4000+ x2
00:44 <****> i can install 32 bit distros on it
00:45 <****> jmm: Yes
00:45 <****> ok
00:45 <****> thank you...
00:45 <****> hey guys, I keep getting that superblock error telling me that it can't find the UUID of my kubuntu partition. can someone tell me how to find and replace the wrong UUID with the right one please? I have gutsy 32x
00:45 <****> nope
00:45 <****> but i've got to install any x86 distro
00:46 <****> !uuid
00:46 <****> To see a list of your devices/partitions and their corresponding UUID's, run this command in a !shell: « sudo blkid » (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibAtaForAtaDisks for the rationale behind the transition to UUID)
00:46 <****> or a amd specific distro
00:46 <****> I don't believe there is a 'specific distro' for AMD - just 32/64
00:46 <****> Hmm grub isent seeing the right uuid? You could set up grub to use the normal /dev/whatever type name. i guess.. or find the right uuid and enter it.. or change the disks uuid to what grub thinks it should be.
00:47 * Dr_willis seconds what wubba said.
00:47 <****> You can compile apps for specific optimizations for specific cpus I guess.. but thats a bit overkill.
00:47 <****> Grub can use UUIDs?
00:47 <****> Dr_willis: I got this error before. it seems to happen everytime I install a new partition the numbers get messed up
00:47 <****> wubba
00:47 <****> I know that /etc/fstab can
00:47 <****> don't think so
00:47 <****> I have kubuntu, ubuntu, and studio
00:47 <****> no windows :)
00:47 <****> ardchoille: so.. can I get the rpm file to work or should I just screw it?
00:47 <****> kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=91c4c158-95c4-45cd-af01-78039aaf0218 ro qui
00:48 <****> jmm: don't think so what?
00:48 <****> ah
00:48 <****> The kernel intry in menu.lst is using the UUID. :)
00:48 <****> that it isnt a specific distro for amd
00:48 <****> X314: I would suggest never using rpm files on *ubuntu systems, it can cause problems.
00:49 <****> jmm: I thought you were asking if there was a specific disto - there isn't - just download the 32 or 64 if your using a 64 bit processor
00:49 <****> kububkubuntu-7.10-alternate-amd64.iso
00:49 <****> ok
00:49 <****> kububkubuntu?
00:49 <****> amd64 is the generic name for '64bit disrto' :)
00:49 <****> oh sorry my mistake
00:49 <****> lol
00:49 <****> ardchoille: ah well. okay ^^ thanks :) take care.. and merry christmas to you ;)
00:49 <****> since amd had the first common 64bit cpus I guess..
