00:00 <****> If you login to a box and it says "This box is monitored. if you accept these conditions please type AGREE" you are gonna type agree right? But the trick is, the answer is something random like CARROT that only i know :)
00:00 <****> fuck
00:00 <****> sorry :0
00:00 <****> splat
00:00 <****> See my plan is clevar :)
00:00 <****> jmmmes; your plan is stupid
00:00 <****> Why ? its classic challenge response spy stuff
00:01 <****> i am confused about dhcp3
00:01 <****> it always gets em
00:01 <****> dhclient.conf is the new version of dhcpd.conf ?
00:01 <****> synak : i actually think its quite a clever idea. If someon decides to look into my box they will just boot into single and think they can change the password. well they would be right but they would also be wrong when they fail my simple test and the data is wiped
00:01 <****> Is anybody here any good with using google? I want to have the title of a webpage start with either of two things, and it has to start with that string. I have tried intitle:"foo*" but this just means that "foo*" has to be somewhere in the title, and I want it to have to be at the beginning of the title, so a title of "foo blah" would match while "blah foo" wouldnt
00:02 <****> Jmmmmes: looks like you'll need a custom getty or shell...
00:02 <****> jmmmmes; read the site i posted, it has some instructions in there to execute commands when a user logs in via single user mode.
00:02 <****> also, its hilarious that you think its CLEVER to destroy all data if your remote host tries to get in via single user mode. i guess you dont value your content much.
00:02 <****> Actually i suppose i could just boobytrap single mode completely, eg going to single mode actually causes the effect itself
00:02 <****> synak : No because the data on there i already had
00:02 <****> have*
00:03 <****> running a warez server or something?
00:03 <****> Jmmmmes: not to mention, that someone could deliberately trigger the destruction of your data.
00:03 <****> or just disable init 1 completely, (do at your own risk)
00:03 <****> mayhap what is wrong with something simple like LUKS disk encryption?
00:03 <****> encryption is good.
00:03 <****> twofish 256 is strong and fairly fast
00:03 <****> If single was disabled they can just mount the drive. Likely that wont be done in the first instance, probably just log into it and check the machine itself
00:04 <****> which is why disk encryption would solve all your problems
00:04 <****> type your passphrase on boot or no data.
00:04 <****> is it difficult to install that on an existing running machine ?@
00:04 <****> pull the drive and you get nowhere either
00:04 <****> Depends... easier if you want to do it to a partition other than /
00:05 <****> look for LUKS
00:05 <****> this is so funny
00:05 <****> draeath not easy unless i can resize live partitions and create a new one
00:05 <****> i know debian etch and later support it. ubuntu and doesn't seem to, and SuSE (10.2 anyways) supports it for non-root partitions
00:05 <****> yea, its not somethign you can just drop in, unless you can temporarily move the data somewhere else
00:06 <****> but then you have ghost copies on the drive platter, in swap, etc
00:06 <****> jmmmmes; look in inittab to see what script is executed when going single user. edit the script to your heart's content.
00:07 <****> in my case I have an encrypted drives, 3x failed SSHs in 10 minutes adds your IP to the iptables drop list for 24 hours. No other ways in. Serial TTYs disabled, and opening the case triggers a momentary switch that cuts the power_good signal from MB to PSU (Which causes immediate reboot)
00:07 <****> draeath : now thats what i'm talking about hahaha
00:08 <****> i havent figured out a way to clear out the RAM though... maybe doing a reverse momentary switch that cuts the power completely (relays?) when case is opened.
00:08 <****> You dont think it would be difficult to get data from the ram?
00:08 <****> just glue the case shut with JB Weld epoxy
00:08 <****> after power dies to the memory it stops holding fairly quickly
00:08 <****> I think even if the person know you were doing that it would need some serious equipment i would have thought to get data from the ram before it goes
00:09 <****> You cant just unplug it because no voltage = no data pretty quick
00:09 <****> bery true
00:09 <****> I dont know exactly but must be like milliseconds
00:09 <****> but... my solution only causes a reboot. i think the ram is still powered
00:09 <****> On post i would have thought memory is reset to default state?
00:10 <****> i'm not sure. the power good signal is connected from MB to PSU when the voltages are stable enough to power on... so I think the ram would clear...
00:10 <****> hello anyone know off the top of their head what the windows equiv of the command "print" in unix
00:10 <****> I imagine that is entirely MB dependand.
00:10 <****> thetekkieprep: lp (i think)
00:10 <****> I've read through `ls --help` but didn't see a way to get it to spit out full path to each file
00:11 <****> so `ls {something} /bin` would give (for example) /bin/bash
00:11 <****> Looking for suggestions for a new digital audio player with ogg support. Doesn't seem to be much out there.
00:12 <****> kny; use find
00:12 <****> draeath hrm not correct :(
00:12 <****> synak, excellent idea
00:12 <****> thanks
00:12 <****> thetekkieprep: you want to print to a file, or display on screen?
00:13 <****> sorry for being off topic but need I something with linux support.
00:13 <****> blackvd: all opensource ones will
00:13 <****> =)
00:13 <****> blackvd, just dont buy an ipod or zune
00:13 <****> iPod owner = uSheep
00:14 <****> blackvd: some irivers do vorbis
00:14 <****> draeath display something on screen
00:14 <****> apple fanboy crap
00:14 <****> thetekkieprep: cat
00:14 <****> thetekkieprep: I suggest this:
00:14 <****> cat /path/to/file | less
00:14 <****> hoho i just sabotaged the ctrl + alt +delete buttons !
00:14 <****> or just less /path/to/file
00:14 <****> jmmmmes; UR NUTZ
00:15 <****> Jmmmmes: do I want to know? polonium injection through fingertips?
00:15 <****> No not quite as good as that, it just a joke they will not enjoy when it comes
00:15 <****> goatse i bet
00:15 <****> Actually might as well sabotage ctrl=alt=delete to actually delete data
00:15 <****> cos i cant hit ctrl+alt+delete from ssh
00:15 <****> jmmmmes; its going to be sad when you need a local reboot because you accidently killed sshd, they give it the 3 finger salute.
00:15 <****> rm -r /*
00:16 <****> Pig_Pen: DO NOT TYPE THAT HERE! (i;ve been banned for an hour for doing that)
00:16 <****> synak in that case its no longer of any use to me
00:16 <****> Pig_Pen : yep good idea
00:16 <****> i would everyone in here is smart enough to not do that
00:16 <****> Pig_Pen: Me too, but a +o was irritable or something
00:17 <****> i would HOPE everyone in here is smart enough to not do that
00:17 <****> honestly why not just ignore ctrl-alt-delete rather than do ANYTHING when its hit?
00:17 <****> Ok, here's an interesting problem, I created a partition using XFS, on a drive that had it's partition system written in Apple Partition Map format. I mounted the new filesystem and coppied 100gbs of information to it. On subsequetn reboots, it fails to mount the XFS drive. I believe this is due to not flipping it back to unix/pc partition map format before creating the new filesystem. How can I recover my data?
00:17 <****> jmmmmes; ok, new sshd DoS attack comes out. someone hits your box, sshd goes down. you can no longer login remotely via ssh. they try to help you and reboot, and it kills the system. hooray!
00:17 <****> draeath : because i wont ever need a ctrl alt delete
00:17 <****> just comment it out so it does not work, then if you want to restore ctrl-alt-delete later you can just remove the hash
00:17 <****> synak : i will recieve no help
00:18 <****> Jmmmmes: so... just ignore it. putting some kind of command there leaves a (small) possibility of exploit....
00:18 <****> you're hiding this machine somewhere to run a warez server, my guess.
00:18 <****> kjp "doesn't mount it".. did you TELL it to mount it?
00:18 <****> Actually no i'm using it for my crappy domain that i host random shit like images, my own personal made music and crap
