00:00 <****> Troyji, it's also how you access access points and other devices... you get a BASH shell through the serial port.
00:00 <****> PeterFA: from another PC you mean?
00:00 <****> Troyji, yeah.
00:00 <****> Troyji: the first version of neo1973 is for developers, I'm awaiting the second wave which has better graphics and accelerometers
00:00 <****> Troyji, using HyperTerm in Windows, you can do this.
00:00 <****> evening
00:00 <****> copper, I lovey ou.
00:00 <****> copper, I lovey you.
00:00 <****> copper, I love you.
00:01 <****> dkr, looks pretty cool
00:01 <****> PeterFA: Yes... I have heard of people using that... I have always wanted to try to play with a serial device with hyperterminal, but I don't have anything.
00:01 <****> did you guys see the size of the kernel's RC1 changelog?
00:01 <****> Troyji, you also need a null modem cable, which I have two.
00:01 <****> dkr: yeah, last I heard they just had the prototype for developers out.
00:01 <****> PeterFA: hmm-kay?
00:01 <****> PeterFA, you should look on ebay for sub 400mhz laptops, try for a thinkpad as they're the only systems that old which are dependable still
00:01 <****> copper, I do.
00:02 <****> plus thinkwiki has good info on model specifics
00:02 <****>"
00:03 <****> blacklabelsk8erX, I wonder if they manufacture low-end laptops that use brand new technology to reduce power consumption and use low specs, keeping the laptop cheap with long better life. The deal is that the old laptops have old batteries, which we know lose their ability to hold charges.
00:03 <****> yep mine has :\...I could snag a new one for 50-100 bones though
00:03 <****> might still do that
00:03 <****> blacklabelsk8erX, and, I do see lots of ThinkPads, and I do like them.
00:04 <****> PeterFA: they have those in japan
00:04 <****> blacklabelsk8erX, I hope the $200 laptop has a serial port, that would rule ^_^
00:04 <****> nod, they're very dependable from what I understand...I mean...this one 233mmx is almost 10 years old at this point
00:04 <****> :)
00:04 <****> PeterFA: they are all the rage, you can get them on bidders.co.jp if you can read japanese
00:04 <****> hi, i cant get my linux box on the net, I can ping my router, the default gateway is set, but I cant ping any ips/names
00:04 <****> blacklabelsk8erX: once upon a time I would drool on MMX CPUs
00:04 <****> whist, tell us about your router: did you set it up yourself?
00:04 <****> lol copper
00:05 <****> is bvi any good? looking for any good hex editor, that has vi-like controls, or anything smarter than arrow-keys...
00:05 <****> whist, by that I mean, is it a PC with Linux on it?
00:05 <****> ya, its just a plain old d-link
00:05 <****> anbizu: vim in hex mode :)
00:05 <****> Im not a complete moron when it comes to linux, this just has me confused
00:05 <****> whist, ok, does the D-Link see the Internet?
00:05 <****> ya, my other computer using the d-link is online
00:05 <****> dkr, this neo1973 is looking pretty slick...you dont have one yet?
00:06 <****> copper, you know, I wondered if there was such a thing. then I drank a lot of whiskey.
00:06 <****> sounds like dns problems
00:06 <****> dkr, how much do you think you'll be able to do with it?
00:06 <****> nah, I pinged google's IP
00:06 <****> no response
00:06 <****> whist, dude, I had a PC router I set up become reset without me knowing. It led me to think that my ISP had issues. We couldn't see the Internet. It was that my computer lost the setting causing it to be a router.
00:06 <****> blacklabelsk8erX: nope, waiting for gta02
00:06 <****> whist: sounds liek your box is not grabbing the dns from the router
00:06 <****> the game? gta2?
00:06 <****> even if I pinged an actual IP
00:06 <****> blacklabelsk8erX: i want to port marble games like enigma so I can play by tilting the device (so need the accelerometers)
00:06 <****> would that stop it from reaching the net?
00:07 <****> that would be neat :)
00:07 <****> not if you have the ip...
00:07 <****> anbizu: see section 23.4 of vim's manual
00:07 <****> ty
00:07 <****> weird part is, it worked a couple days ago
00:07 <****> I want a cool tablet and stick Ubuntu on it. That would rule.
00:07 <****> blacklabelsk8erX: gta01 is the developer release of the phone currently out. gta02 is the next model coming ni a coupl emonths
00:07 <****> whist: just 1 eth?
00:07 <****> their hardware wishlist would be some nice upgrades too...but just the base model specs are impressive
00:07 <****> ya
00:07 <****> dkr, ahh I understand now
00:08 <****> whist: is your router firewalled?
00:08 <****> you have a GP2X bychance?
00:08 <****> @ dkr
00:08 <****> running ubuntu gutsy... have a weird problem where some of my portable hard drives aren't detected by HAL at startup
00:09 <****> blacklabelsk8erX: nope
00:09 <****> Anyone famiiar with redhat9 virtual webserver setup? I am looking to understand the virtual name-based server settings. I have read the docs but apparently don't undersand. I have basic httpd working and public to internet, but name-based is not configured properly... any help is appreciated.
00:09 <****> dkr: would of figured you'd be tinkering with that...but you probably have an unlocked iphone then? :P
00:09 <****> gzimmerer: rh9 was end-of-lifed around 3 or 4 years ago, you know?
00:09 <****> e.g. gnome-volume-manager won't detected or mount two particular drives, unless they're unplugged and replugged
00:09 <****> does a problem like this sound familiar? same thing for any other hal-dependent mounter
00:09 * blacklabelsk8erX sheds a tear for RH9
00:10 <****> LOL... no I didn't know.. maybe that is why it was given to me....:)
00:10 <****> back to the drawing board...
00:11 <****> although /. still runs on 16 web servers running redhat9 I saw recently
00:12 <****> I suppose there's nothing requiring them to upgrade
00:12 <****> enouf, take a llok we might have 200mbit/sec on copper http://pastebin.ca/748561
00:13 <****> nod, "if it ain't broke", I still have some rhel2 servers wheer I just manually compile apache/perl/mod_perl myself, so not much need for updates aside from kernel for any remotable DoS bugs found
00:14 <****> (quoted as being between one and 25 mbit/sec), with up to 200 mbit/sec apparently being deliverable
00:15 <****> copper wiring is used in what precisely?
00:15 <****> electrical lines?
00:15 <****> copper wire
00:15 <****> lol
00:15 <****> its used in phone lines
00:15 <****> we have fast NET over those lines aswell
00:15 <****> audio cables
00:16 <****> ahh cool, so...it means faster DSL eventually?
00:16 <****> and stop highlighting my name
00:16 <****> haha
00:16 <****> copper: we'll call it Cu from now on
00:17 <****> how willing are isp's to balance multiple connections to me?
00:18 <****> Are there any langues with a REPL for linux that are made for easily representing graph 2 and 3 dimensional graphs visually?
00:18 <****> I was playing around with one once, but I forget its name
00:18 <****> dan more detail
00:19 <****> *languages
00:19 <****> lispy language? [repl]
